Titanfall, the latest in the “Call of Duty” series, has hit the best-seller list in more than a dozen countries for the first time.
According to data from comScore, the first week of sales of Titanfall have reached $8 billion in the U.S. and Canada.
The top-selling game of the month so far in the Americas was Destiny 2, which has sold more than 9 million copies.
“The Titanfall hype train has been moving forward like a bullet train,” said Andrew Cole, comScore’s director of international games, noting that the game has a high-profile cast of characters and a strong multiplayer component.
“It’s really clear that it has the potential to do well in markets across the world.”
“Titan, of course, will be the most hyped game of all time,” Cole added.
“But it’s also the most ambitious game we’ve ever seen in the history of video games.
That’s why it’s the best selling game in the world.
There’s nothing like a big-budget AAA game to generate a lot of hype.”
The game is set to release next year in the United States and the UK.
Cole noted that the franchise has become a major seller in Europe, with the first-week sales of the game in Germany reaching $4.6 billion, with a total of $9.2 billion sold so far.
In the U, it has sold about $1 billion in Europe alone.
“It’s the game that’s going to get the most people to buy the game,” Cole said.
“That’s what it’s all about.”
TitanFall launched in the UK and the United Kingdom this week, and Cole expects it to reach more markets in the months to come.
“I’m going to have people who don’t normally buy video games but who want to buy a title that will be a bit of a cross-seller, because it’s a really great title, but they’re also interested in how it’s being made and how it can appeal to a wider audience,” he said.
“In the U., it’s been a bit hard for us to do, but we’re really excited about it.
I don’t think it’s going away.”
Cole said the U and U.K. sales of other games like Overwatch, a new fighting game from Blizzard, are expected to be significant.
“These games are going to be very important for us,” he explained.
“I think the games we’re releasing are going not just to be a small fraction of our total sales but to a significant number of them.
And we’re going to continue to make them available to gamers all over the world, not just in the States and U: The game has hit that big milestone, we’re all excited about that.”
